Need help? Inspiration? All you’ve got to do is ask

I read a post in our Show and Tell Community forum the other day that made me smile. A customer was looking for inspiration to make his company Web site better and did not want to hire a professional designer. He wanted to see examples of other sites built using only Office Live Small Business tools and templates.

What made me smile was how quickly – really within minutes– another entrepreneur responded with exactly the information that had been requested. Others chimed in too as the day progressed, offering their thoughts.

So for me there were two take-aways from that post that I wanted to share with you:

1. Our Community is working the way a good community should. People are eager to jump in and help each other.  If you haven’t discovered this yet, check it out.

2. Our Community often delivers the inspiration that novice Web designers seek.  A lot of really knowledgeable, interesting folks and lots of different points of view hang out there—folks like RxDave, who recommended the following sites in his response to the post I mentioned earlier. (Note that these are not Microsoft sites.)

Obviously I’m a big believer in the power of Community – but I’d be curious to hear your perspective. Do you like to participate in forums like ours? Why or why not?

Hope to see you in a thread,

Filiberto Selvas

I agree, working with the people in here shows a great community is building and helping many small businesses and individuals get web exposure that they may never have got with other tools.

I started this website as I got really frustrated at certain issues surrounding the way our lives were being controlling by others...so where's our independence and human right to expect somethings in return for the input we have within our country or community. Then I felt that there must be other thousands of people out there who would like to air their views. So this idea was born and also felt that maybe I could earn some money through the site...I don't know how to set up my front page to attract enough interest and hold onto that long enough for people to stay and have some input and fun as well. So I'm looking for help big time but funding is limited so any free help would be appreciated.

The "Help" here seems to lack the operative defining quality; "NO Help"  more like it.  Can SOMEone tell me how to make a new post?  "make new post"  or "new post" as search queries turn up NOTHING that won't take me a million years to wade through.  I'm trying to insert page numbers in a 2007 DOC, and the stupid application inserts GARBAGE instead of page numbers, and I can't find a way to manually insert field codes, either.  Instead, I get these stupid templates THAT DON'T WORK AS ADVERTISED.  I don't USE templates, I MAKE them...for exactly the reason I'm unhappy: The stupid templates don't work!  What the H__l am I supposed to do with "Page 1 of 15" pasted here when what I see in the DOCUMENT is actually "Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}"?  I can't use or print this accursed drek unless I'm pasting it into a web-based text box!  That's why I need to make a post, and I can't even find out how to do THAT stupid thing!  It's really getting me cheeses, because I've been using and developing documentation on Microsoft applications since 1985, and I've NEVER had this much trouble with a new product (MSO 2007)!!!

Hrothgar50: make sure you post your site at this forum: myofficelivecommunity.com/.../26.aspx

gremlinkurst: you are welcome to join us in this community; but sounds like you need help with the Office Suite (this community site is for Microsoft Office Live Small Business); for office go to http://support.microsoft.com. To join this community (so you can post) click the "sign in" button in the upper right corner.

    Hi to John Hopkins!

You may like to post your web site and queries in "Discussions" (the best place to get responses and advice as they are read by a wider audience of users)-

"Show and Tell at the Customer Gallery"

    "Beginners Forum" and

    "Sell Products and Services Online"

would be the best forums for high visibility and responses for your requests.  We look forward to seeing you over in the Discussion Forums, very soon. BTW: Nice looking site!

Hi, again John Hopkins......... it is very nice to see you found the discussion forums without my help. LOL.

Nice, active discussions with some of our regulars. Definitely  a better place for questions than Blogs.  :)
