If you’re looking for employees, have you considered looking at workers age 55 and above?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 55-plus workers now make up 17 percent of the labor force, but that number is growing and is projected to account for nearly 24 percent of the work force by 2020.
In today’s shaky economy, fewer seniors can afford to retire and hit the links. But that’s not the only reason seniors are looking for work. Many of them simply want to stay in the work force because they enjoy working, and have a passion for what they do.
To help you find those workers, check out the Employ the Older Workers Job Fair Series, coming to more than 55 cities across the country from late August through October 2008. Sponsored by The AARP Foundation and The Employment Guide, the fairs will feature thousands of job seekers age 40 and over. Visit this site for a complete listing of the fairs.
If you’ve got a small company, older workers can be a great addition to your team because they’re typically reliable, dedicated, and have a strong work ethic. They also have years of experience to draw from.
Tell us: Have you got older workers on your team? How is it working out?
