How to tell if your Web site is working for you

Did you know that Microsoft Office Live Small Business tracks all kinds of information about your Web site traffic, such as which pages are the most or least popular? Or which search words are being used to find your site? Or which Web sites are sending people to your site?

You can also tell what browsers or screen resolutions your customers are using. This information can be useful in helping you hone your marketing strategies and optimize your Web site for the best viewer experience.

But before you can use this information, first you’ll need to know how to find the reports, determine what reports are available, and get a general idea of how to interpret them.

Find the reports

To see your reports, do the following:

1. On the Office Live Small Business Home page, on left navigation bar, click Reports.

2. In Reports, on the left navigation bar, click a report category. A statistical summary for each category appears. To view more details, click a link in the summary details.

Understand the reports

The Use reports article gives a quick overview of what each report is, and the Understand reports article describes strategies for using the statistics found in the reports. This information will give you a basic understanding of what statistics are available and how to use them to achieve your goals, whatever those goals might be.

Put the reports to work

Once you have learned the basics, you can start strategizing for your own business. A good way to start learning how to do this is by reading the Use your Web site to help achieve your business goals article, which discusses ways you can use your Web site to reach out to your customers. After you implement some of your strategies, the Track and analyze key performance indicators article will help you determine how successful those efforts are when you review your Web site reports.

I’d love to hear from you: What do you do to increase traffic to your Web site? Any tips? Please leave a comment.
