Microsoft Office Live Small Business Community

Hi All,

I am not sure whether anyone before me posted this but I am glad to announce that Microsoft Office Outlook connector is now available for the Officelive Basics users. It can be used with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. The only problem is that you can't use calendar option which is not a big deal for me

How can I use Microsoft Outlook in OfficeLive?

 Am I missng something?

Microsoft Office Live Small Business is a set of online services aimed to satisfy the needs of small business (about 5-10 computers or less). The services do not include Outlook, but they do include we b based email and you can use Outlook Connector (not a part of our services) to access the email through the Outlook client.

I agree, something is missing. I think the question has not been answered and I would like to add to the question more specifically. Office Live Small Business looks like an interesting product but I need to know the specifics of how Office Live interfaces with my Outlook. Does Office Live email act as an exchange server? Will it use my Outlook folders? Does Office Live mail scan for viruses and mark spam emails as spam and put them into my junk email folder? Can I add my own folders to organize my incoming email messages? Can I keep my current website hosted with another company and change the mx record to direct my email to Office Live? Overall I find the Office Live Small Business site lacking in detail information. I thank anyone in advance for answering these questions completely.

• The email service acts as Hotmail
• Using outlook connector I can create folders in my mail accounts; but they are stored at the hotmail servers
• Same Spam deterrent capabilities as Hotmail
• There is no ability to manipulate MX records

Our e-mail is with the company we have our T-1 through as well as our Phone service.  I just read this post and they dtold me that I needed to change my MX Record.  I'm guessing that your post doesn't offer me any hope.  I am struggling to figure out how to make this work exactly as that is included in our package.  Is there a way even if you purchase one of the office live packages or it is just not a possibility in Office Live at all?

MX record manipulation is not possible in Microsoft Office Live Small Business at all; at least not in the current version (and we just released it)

Until support for custom MX records is supported the service is really not useful to the bulk of established small businesses. We already have our hosting solutions and online stores etc. While those services are nice from Office Live it's not practical to expect us to drop our current solutions and run here.

Now the online sharing stuff, there is some real value. That along with the Outlook and Office Conectivity is excellent. Until you let me set our own mx records for domains there is very little real use value, just a great idea and excellent tools that we really can't use in our daily business life.

Please get the custom MX support added to the offering! Until then the best service available (becasue of IMAP, POP3, SMTP, Mobile Connectivity....) is Google Apps.
