Re: Email link with smart phone

Depends on the type of smart phone you have. If you have Windows Mobile 5 or 6 then it will be real easy. Just enter your Office Live email account details as if it was a Hotmail account. If you have a Blackberry then you can't sync the email as with Windows but you can still access your email by going to www.hotmail.com with your browser and choosing the "other email" option. A last option is to sync a hotmail account with a Blackberry or other Smart Phone and forward your Office Live email to this Hotmail account. You will find the email forwarding options in your Live Mail under Options > More Options.

Re: Email link with smart phone

I have an ATT Motorola Q and am trying to access my Office Live email thru Outlook.  Is that impossible?  If it's not possible, then can I at least access like a POP 3 account?  even that doesn't seem to work and I am using pop3.mail.com for the incoming server and smtp.live.com for outgoing.  Any help you can offer would be great.  In the meantime, I'm forwarding my OL email to my @msn email which my phone does retrieve for me.  Just seems less than ideal since I don't have a synced calendar or synced contacts available.  Thank you in advance!

Yes, there's a way to get OLSB email on your Q. Check out my blog for step by step instructions.

Web2, thanks for the vote of confidence that this could be done.  I am using a Palm and it's asking for POP3 or IMAP4 for the setup, by suggesting hotmail, I assumed POP3, can you confirm?

Additionally, how do I figure out the officelive incoming and outgoing mail servers and the domain?  Any help you can provide would be appreciated, thanks.

Advisor Norris, thanks to you as well for helping me navigate this terrain.  I already use officelive and signed up for the premium acct initially so that I could call MSFT to ask about this.  Unfortunately, the confirmation of my purchase doesn't tell me anything about how to configure it.  Am I supposed to configure something prior to being able to use incoming and outgoing mail server info on the about.com page?

Re: Email link with smart phone

Try these:

POP: pop3.live.com (port 995)

SMTP: smtp.live.com (port 25)

Note: make sure you check the box that indicates that your outgoing server requires authentication (in most mail clients this is not checked by default).

Recently, I read some comments that the premium acct did not include POP/SMTP. Could you verify this and let us know?

Re: Email link with smart phone

Thanks for the suggestions.  It doesn't allow me to change the port on the palm or I haven't figured out how to do it.  Once I try to send/receive it sort of times out after trying to connect for a while and an error message comes up and says unable to connect....blah, blah, blah

I signed up for the Windows mobile live and put the web access on my favorites so I'll get updated that way until there's a better solution.  If Web2 responds, I'll see what he says, but I'll use the web for now.

 Thanks everyone!

Are you on WinMo? Outlook Mobile should be able to connect to Office Live mail natively.
