Ok, I spent the afternoon entering clients to the Business apps contact manager how can I send them an e-mail?

I just spent the afternoon entering in my clients into the Business apps contact manager and set up some groups, I'd like to send a group a e-mail (inviting them to the new web site)... Looks like it can't be done?? seems like a fairly normal expectation for a contact manager? What am I missing?

Dartdog, I believe that is only possible if you use one of the following: 1. Activate Email Marketing Beta - it uses the contact information in the Contact Manager app 2. Connect your Contact Manager app with Outlook (2003/2007) - from inside Outlook, you can create a distribution list and can then add your contact entries from the Contact Manager app to it Other than the above two options, there is really no other way to do it as Windows Live Mail cannot access the information in Contact Manager directly (I guess you can also export your contacts from Contact Manger and import them back into your mail program's address book and then build a distribution list from there, but that is not very convenient).

Hello Dartdog:

I just imported all the contacts from clients windows address book to the contacts in his e-mail account and bypassed contact manager all together.

Thank you both I guess that's what I thought.. Curious, Hope that's on someones' enhancement list, contact management without access to the core e-mail capability...The contact manager even displays the "personal adress book bar" but of course that only opens mail doesn't provide cross app function, and of course you can send to a single "contact" but no record is produced to track, and of course no inbound communicatioon tracking...

In short contact management with totally manual input.

Hello Dartdog:

I look for improvements to be made to contact manager but until then for sending news letters (for free) I just configured the clients e-mail to do all of that. I have all the people on the mailing list all in one group so it is easy for the client to send news letters, same thing that you was trying to do in the contact manager in business applications. Contact Manager could also be made to work with the e-mail marketing solution and since I do not have that option some of its functions could be limited.

Re: Ok, I spent the afternoon entering clients to the Business apps contact manager how can I send them an e-mail?

Hello Royster

I am trying to set up distribution lists in my SharePoint Contacts in Outlook 2007.  When I try to save the distribution list, I get the error: 'Your changes cannot be saved because you don't have permission to modify some or all of the items in this folder.'  I have administrative permission on the office live site.  I am unaware of any permission settings in Outlook itself.  Under 'Account Settings' for 'SharePoint Lists' I do have write permission.

Reading some other forums and knowledgebases, I came across the suggestion to change settings in the 'Administration' and 'Forms' areas of the folder's properties, but all options are greyed out.  I cannot change them with one exception.  On the 'General' tab, there is an option 'When postion to this folder use' which had the default value 'IPM'  I sucessfully added the form 'Contact' to that.  When I tried add 'DistList' I received the error message 'You cannot create an item of this type in this folder'.  Aargh!

What am I missing?  I understand that SharePoint doesn't support any changes I would make to the distribution list, but surely it won't prevent me from creating them locally....

Thanks for all your help.

Sandra
