Subscribed Threads

Im not sure if i am missing something here.  But is there an option in this forum for a "subscribed thread"? This is a common feature in forums when a user wants to subscribe or sort of bookmark to a certain discussion or thread so they dont have to keep on searching the site for previous threads.  I think we should have one.  thanks.

Re: Subscribed Threads

tomtom55, have you tried saving the URL of a thread as a favorite?

Re: Subscribed Threads

Have you tried setting the filters available at the bottom of the various forums under "MORE OPTIONS"?  Not necessarily what you're asking but better than nothing.  The settings are for the current forum and not applied globally.

In your profile you can set messages to be displayed in ascending or descending order, applies to all the threads.  There is also a place where you can select to receive notification of subscribed threads/replies to posts.  Now, how you subscribe to a thread (or if this feature is working) I dunno.  I turned that on but don't see anything different.

Re: Subscribed Threads

Well, apparently 'subscribed' and 'replies' is the same.  It kindly sent me my own post. Doesn't look like we can keep track of threads we haven't posted to but would like to be notified of, which would be nice (hint hint).  Maybe that is to encourage us to post <g> (like I need encouragement!)

Re: Subscribed Threads

I just tried saving this thread as a favorite and it works well.  You can go right to it.  Here is the link:  http://myofficelivecommunity.com/discuss/forums/t/4779.aspx.  The title in the favorites list shows as "Microsoft Office Live Small Business Subscribed threads."  Is this what you mean?

Oops, it works great if you are signed in.  If not, you are taken to the Community Home page.  That seems to be the only catch.  The little favicon also shows when you come in that way.

Re: Subscribed Threads As Favorites

But do we really want forum discussions clogging up our Favorites lists, especially given the lousy Favorites management provided by IE7?

The interface model for discussions such as these already has been perfected by newsreaders.  The developers are trying to make a web browser do what newsreaders do, only with less functionality.  But, as with weblogs and their attendant user feedback "forums", we've traded functionality for ease of use, much to the detriment of the art of constructive and meaningful discussion.

Web-based discussion forums should try to imitate newsreaders as much as possible, even though they can never provide the same level of functionality.

basically, i just want a feature wherein i can manage all the threads in this forum.  i dont want to have to save it in ie7's favorites as i already have a very long list of faves.  i have not tried the other options mentioned here but i will soon.

Hi TomTom55,

That is certainly one of the features we will put into the next release of our PartArt Reader.  Stay tuned!

In the meantime, I believe you will find PartArt to provide a much better viewing experience for new posts on Office Live when compared with the existing discussion forum interface.
