Site Security: Small Business Community discussions vs. Workspace Security

When I'm posting -- or even simply reading -- comments in this public forum, SSL is sometimes used.  I haven't yet figured out the pattern or exactly when it gets invoked, but I'm often viewing these community pages very securely, and wondering why.  However, when I'm moving documents back and forth to and from my online workspace, SSL isn't available.

There would seem to be a bug in the community portion of the site that makes calls via HTTPS.  Wouldn't such security be much more useful for our workspaces?

To put it simply, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is for the protection (encryption) of information sent between servers online, you can see this feature on my office live website (http://silvermoonfurniture.com/online.aspx) whenever you either add a item to your shopping cart or view your shopping cart you will notice the https and the little lock at bottom right of browser. As far as security in workspaces I do have some items password protected but store no sensitive information there. I do provide this service for my clients on a secure server but yes it would be nice if Microsoft would provide this so my clients would not have to pay me the outrageous fees that I charge them.

Thanks for your reply, scybyte.  However, I do understand SSL.  What I'm saying is that it is used unnecessarily in some places and not used in other places where it would be useful.

The only place I see it used is for customers security in buying online with office live "Store Manager" which provides onsite SSL connections but I agree with you that for the small businesses interested in haveing a secure online workspace without the cost of a Tech would be the perfect thing.
