Elizabeth, What I would try first is set the handles and try to scrunch it in. Move the cursor over the table border. When the crossed arrows appear, click and little boxes will appear on the edges and corners. Click on the right edge box and move the border in. The text will wrap differently. The images will determine how far you can go. In both tables and zones, the content will determine the width. Text can move in and out, but images cannot.
Another way to control a table width is to right-click on it, then click on properties. You can explicitly set the table width in pixels (e.g. 600px) in the box.
I think a better solution for that page is to change the orientation of rows and columns. In other words, put the images in the first row down the left column. Add the captions (second row) in the same cells as the images (first column). Now you only need 2 more columns for the rest of the content. A three column table would fit nicely. Another tip, tables tend to look better when they appear to be "tight." The content of the cells and the white space around it should look in proportion. Play with the cell padding (also in Properties) and see what looks best. The default setting is 8. Try this out on a test page and see if you like it. Good luck.
