third-party design software help

hi,

I have made a in site in Dreamweaver and would like to publish it through office live. When I go to website and then click on "go to your web site folder" my computer pops up. I really don't know what to do after that. Is there a folder I have to make? If so how do I upload it. Can someone help me on what to do next, Sorry I'm a little new to all of this.

thanks

Hi Mookie000,

Where did you save the site you creataed in Dreamweaver on your computer?  You need to go to that directory/location first.  Once you have opened the folder to your Office Live site, all you need to do is to copy the files in the directory where you saved your Dreamweaver site and then put them in the Office Live folder (just copy and drop!)  The files will be transferred to Office Live and you should be able to see it when you access your website.  Note that by default, I think dreamweaver saves the home page as index.htm.  In order for it to work in Office Live, you must save the file as default.htm or default.aspx.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Royster,

I understand everything, I've changed all my files to default.aspx but I can't seem to find the Office Live folder.

Re: third-party design software help

When you said in your first message, "my Computer pops up", did you see which folder it was in?  If everything was correct, the "My Computer" folder that popped up should be your Office Live folder.

Hope this helps!

Re: third-party design software help

Yikes.... the Office Live folks at Microsoft really need to do a better job at QAing this stuff.  Anyhow, hopefully this thread can help you:

Re: third-party design software help

From what I can see, you are missing at the minimum the files main-menu.html and main-logo.html.  That is why you are getting the webpage cannot be found messages.  Put those files into the folder as well.  If you have photos, you need to put those in the folder as well.

Hope this helps!

Re: third-party design software help

I just went to your site.  The files main-menu.html and main-logo.html are blank.  One very simple way of testing whether your site works after finishing your editing with Dreamweaver is to load it into your browser locally.  If you saved your site in, for example, C:\Website\ , then you can open the homepage file in that directory in your web browser and see if it shows up correctly.  If everything works perfectly locally, when you move the files to Office Live, it should work without any problems.

Hope this helps!

Re: third-party design software help

You have a space in the directory name? My Pictures?  Let's assume you do have the images in the proper folder. However, for one thing, spaces are just not good in URLs. My advice is to change the directory name and eliminate all spaces. Then, make sure you are using the new directory name for all the image locations.
