Re: Blackberry and Windows/Office Live Hotmail and Messenger

Royster, I do not actually have a BB. I am in the process of switching carrier and acquiring one. I spend a lot of time in rural China for work, internet connection is hard to come by over there, much less a decent one, and it is absolutely crucial that I receive my OL mail while I am over there to stay on top of things. A BB that cannot receive OL mail would do me no good, so I was researching and asking you questions to try to make an informed decision on a device. Based on the information I gathered from you and from reading the threads on crackberry.com, I have decided to go with a BB. I should have it by the end of this week, and we shall know for sure then.

Within twenty minutes of setting up my OL account, new emails were getting "pushed" to my new BB. All users will have to reactivate this service on their device every 90 days, but it is really quite easy as long as they remember to do so.

Research thoroughly first, though, if getting OL emails is your deciding factor in acquiring a BB, it says in the disclosure that not all carriers are making this service available. Also be mindful if you receive emails in languages other than English and probably Spanish, it is up to your carrier what languages are available on the BB's they sell, and it is painful to get any language on a device that is not readily available from your carrier.

If you send and receive emails in languages other than English with your OL account: There is a possibility the messages are not properly displayed on your BB regardless of the configuration on your device. If that is the case, chances are your recipicients will see a bunch of question marks in your replies in the foreign language.

Royster,

 A couple things:

I recently set up a business domain on MOLSB. After I finally set up my email I ran into the dreaded connectivity issue with my BB 8100 pearl. Figured the easiest fix was the premium email. Thought I'd try and get some info from MS first; CS was adamant about saying they no longer support pop email, even with the premium option. This was response from email and I then called, asking the rep to double check with supervisors. Same thing there, although I really don't have much faith in CS knowledge on these things. Can you or anyone confirm the current premium does allow pop access?

Good news is, after spending hours online trying to figure out if the BB upgrade, allowing HTTP was working, I finally just tried to set up my new email on the phone directly and it worked first time, instantly. Note when I tried to set it up online via my T-Mobile page, it error-ed out and wouldn't work.

Even though most things are working, my new pain is the inability to have subfolders in my email account with Outlook Connector. Hence my continuing to pursue the pop option.

Any info would be appreciated
