I like the layout and color scheme, and your use of gigantic subheadings is kind of interesting, too. Your site stands out nicely from all the standard looking Web pages out there.
However, I think you need to be clearer about the purpose of your site and what you’re asking the reader to do. Here’s what I suggest:
State your “ultimate goal” in your introduction. Don’t lead off talking about the inspirational short story and your slogan. Tell people what you’re trying to do. For example: “GIVINGbackLIFE.org serves the poor and neglected children of China by working to provide them with much needed medical care. Our immediate goal is to help establish a children’s clinic/hospital in the rural city of Yue Ling (Guang Xi province).” If you come up with a statement like that, people will immediately get what you’re about.
Tell people how they can help. On your Home page, create a How You Can Help heading where you ask people to join your cause and spell out the ways they can do that (be on your board, donate money, provide advice, sign up for your newsletter to stay informed, etc.). Provide a way for them to contact you.
Get rid of the starfish photo: I understand that this has something to do with the starfish story, but the photo lacks a clear connection to your mission of helping kids in China. I would use a photo of Chinese kids instead.
Use photos from China: On your Photograph page (maybe rename it Photos), the picture from the Sudan is heart-wrenching but I would stick with photos from China, which is the area you focus on.
Create a separate Our Mission page. Here you can go into depth about your pay-it-forward philosophy and motivations, and use your Mother Teresa quotes.
Create a separate About Us page. Talk about Daniel and Alberta on this page, but don’t use cartoon headshots. Use real photos if you want folks to take you seriously.
Create a China Notes page: Put your Additional Notes content here.
You’ve adopted a great cause—good luck going forward with it.
