Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Hi Guys,

I have set up several email accounts to try and help focus our efforts upon our customers needs. However Is there an easy way to monitor or dowmload the mail showing where it has come from rather than signing out and back in for each account. Which frankly is a pian in the B**t. I look forward to your early replies. Thanks

Warm Kind Regards

Edward

I would try using Windows Live mail desktop, it allows you to add multiple email accounts, and it works great with live mail.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Thanks, I took a look and the best thing it's free. always good. However one question, is this program online based or is it like outlook, specific to one pc? I use several computers during the day, an "office" unit, a graphics units, a production unit and a laptop. One thing I like about the officelive email is that it is online and I can access it from any of the pc's and keep it open on each one mainly all the time.

Before I download live mail can I do the same with that program? Thanks for your good advice as usual.

Warm Kind Regards

Edward

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

You can also link your email accounts together through windows live.

its easy to switch between them then.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Edward, linking your Windows Live ID's allows multiple access from any computer.  Once you have logged into one account, you have access to all of them  For instructions, click on "Getting Started" in my signature, then use the "Prescriptions" link.  Scroll down to "Basic Email Management."  If you have @live or @Hotmail accounts, you can also link those as well.  Be sure you have passwords and hints, etc. set up for you OL accounts first.  Good luck.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Thanks for your quick reply. On officelive email I can log on at any pc and the email is "online". With Outlook the email is "downloaded" to a specific pc. Although outlook can download and access multiple email accounts the mail once downloaded/accessed to that specific pc cannot be viewed from any other pc. Where as the officelive email system can view email from ANY pc once you get online.

The question I have is does this windows live email work like officelive email or like outlook in the way you access the email? Thanks.

Warm Kind regards

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

 Edward,

That is incorrect. The way emails are "downloaded" in Outlook or Windows Live Mail is that they remain on the server. So once you "download" email from your Office live Mail to one PC, you can setup another PC and do the same thing and the account will download all the emails from the server again on the new PC. Outlook Connector and Windows Live Mail do not use POP to connect to Office Live Mail, but uses the HTTP protocol for synchronizing data.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Edward, are you asking me?  For the method I described Outlook is not used at all.  All of the Microsoft email accounts are viewed on line, and they all work the same way.  They even look the same.  I think they are the same.  Is that what you are asking?  Linking WLID's is just a convenient way to get to all of them with a single log-in.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Hi again thanks for your quick reply. I downloaded the program and I am in the process of "linking". I can see that I can use the email online asa against just from one pc. so that is great. However just because it is linked, i don't have to login, but I was wondering IF say I was logged into one account, then an email addressed to another linked IF that email could come into the same screen and then I can consider what to do with it, maybe save it to a folder in that name for exactly. Otherwise I will have to keep checking each account seperately which might drive me nuts clicking say 10-25 accounts several times a day, everyday. just seems such a waste of time.

Maybe a "trillain" type notification system might be useful instead/as well. Does that make sense? I look forward to your reply. thanks.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Edward, I guess I would re-evaluate the need for 10-25 email accounts that I would have to personally check every day, but I am not a business man.  Is that a common practice in a business?

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

So you don't want to use Outlook or Windows Live Mail? Not sure who you are responding to in this thread as it is getting confusing. Anyhow, to answer your last post, you can do what you have described by by forwarding your account to a central account:

e.g. you have 3 email accounts: Email A, Email B, and Email C.

You use Email A as your main one. What you can do is forward Email B and Email C to Email A, so all emails arriving in those email accounts will appear in Email A's webmail screen. The only downside to this is that Email B and Email C will no longer have a copy of the email (since they are all forwarded to Email A - however, if you buy the Premium email, Email B and Email C can retain a copy). Also, you can set it up so that you are sending out emails using Email B and Email C accounts even using Email A.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

I use WLMD to check 5 different email accounts plus I check mail on three different computers (depends which I'm using) works prefectly if I read it one computer it appears read on the other, delete it one it deletes it on the other, plus it allows you to add multiple accounts and keep all the accounts seperate.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Hey, I just installed Windows Live Mail and it looks like it will work very well.  I also made it my default mail client so I can bag Outlook altogether.  That also makes me happy.  Thanks for the tip.

Re: Monitor Multiple Email Accounts

Yes. It's a great program. They are working on integrating it with Windows Live Calendar in the next release, so that should be pretty exciting. Outlook is really overkill for most small businesses. It'll be nice to get the Office Live Contact Manager integrated with Windows Live Mail but maybe that's asking a bit too much :)
