IE keeps freezing up

During the last week, whenever I come into the Community Forum through its Homepage my Internet Explorer just freezes up when I click on anything and the band on top says - Windows Internet Explorer ( Not Responding ). It lasts about 30 or 40 seconds, which seems like forever, and then it seems to be okay...although a few times it's stayed frozen and I had to close the page. If I do manage to get past the Homepage and try to write or answer a post, it freezes at that point too. The rest of MOL seems to work fine, as far as getting from place to place. Is this something with IE...or is it MOL? Because whatever it is...it's driving me crazy!! I hope someone knows..

Re: IE keeps freezing up

Gypssy, do you ever get the dialog about reporting the error to Microsoft?  If so, there is a link that will tell you the error code.  It will look like "0x000F2397E44" or some odd string like that.  You can do a search on that code to get a clue about what is going on.

Are you dial-up or broadband?  Are you using an accelerator?  When I was using dial-up the accelerator would sometimes cause what you are describing.  It had its own cache that I needed to empty, then I switched it off and restarted it.  Other browser add-ins can also cause problems.

Another thought, have you ever used a registry cleaner?  They are a little scary, but the first time I ran one it found >400 issues, and it did make things run better.  Send me an email and I'll tell you what I use.

Have you tried deleting offline content in IE?

Re: IE keeps freezing up

Hi Dave,

It took me 5 minutes just to get in here to reply! I get that dialog box to report the error to Microsoft alot, but I never really noted the code. Where do you search to check out something like that? I have a cable connection, so I don't think there should be any problem there. I've seen registry cleaners around, but I've never used one. Don't they delete things? <shiver>. And is that okay to do??

Hi StudioAllen,

By offline content, do you mean temporary internet files, cookies, etc? Thats always the first fix I try when something doesn't work. It didn't seem to help at all this time. Is this an IE problem, or maybe something flukey from the changes? I thought maybe it was OL because the other night my whole site was running as slow as molasses. Seems like alot of annoying little problems since the changes were made. I don't understand why the freezing up only happens here in the forums though.

Re: IE keeps freezing up

Potentially. I want to isolate if its your IE thats specifically having problems, or whether theres some other thing thats causing this issue.Besides ,its always good to have 2-3 different browsers on your computer.

Re: IE keeps freezing up

I tried rebooting my modem..unplugged everything, plus the router..waited a couple of minutes and plugged everything back in, and it seems to be working okay now. I thought I remembered having to do that once before when IE wasn't working right. I haven't frozen up this time yet <crosses her fingers>. If I do, someone hold a hairdryer on me!!  Royster, maybe I should download Firefox anyway, if you think its worth having. Where do I go to download it? And Dave...I didn't have your email address, so I used your Contact form. Did it come through? Did I miss any miracles that came along with the "Outage" while I was frozen??

Yes,Firefox is definitely worth having (~20% marketshare in US) - you may even want to use it as your primary browser! Here it is: http://mozilla.org/firefox

I am curious if Firefox solved the problem?

Hi Filiberto :)

I didn't see the problem with Firefox. It seemed to clear up in IE when I rebooted my modem. Things are working much better today.
