The second necklace on the right is 439px x 640px.  What size was it before uploading?  Basically you need to resize your photos in a photo editor or the Windows photo viewer before uploading.  In general, in a grid like you are using, the page will look better if all of the photos are the same size and shape.  Another appropach is to make all the photos in a column the same width, or all in the row the same height.

Re: I am having a real problem resizing my pictures.

After looking at several hundred sites here, generally the images just need to be smaller.  But that's just me.  I am not sure there is a right size.  There is a concept called the "golden rectangle."  Classical Greek architecture used it which may explain why it was so pleasing to the eye.  It is roughly a rectangle with sides in a ratio of 1:1.618....  So an image 100 x 162 would approximate it.  The images at the top here:  http://fidalgoweather.net/journal.aspx  are not quite in that ratio, they are 125 x 184, but they seem pleasing to me.  For me also, having them all the same size and shape looks good.  They are also large enough to convey the point I am trying to make.  Square images also look nice if arranged well.  I use them on my home page and elsewhere in the site.

If you need a larger image, consider using the smaller one to link to a larger photo.  One method to do that is on my "Getting Started" page.  The smaller photo tends to look better on the page, while the larger version opened separately will show more detail.  I hope I haven't bored you with all this babbling.

I am not understanding what you mean by the grid being hard to figure out.

I too am having trouble up loading photos.  Where do you re-size images before up loading to site?

vickyva, you resize the images on your computer using software. If you have photoshop or photopaint, look for the "resample" option. If you do not have either of these programs, there are free programs out there. Microsoft has one that works on Windows XP. It can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx

If you scroll down, you'll see a link on the right-hand side for ImageResizer. This is a very simple tool to convert one or a batch of photos to one of three sizes (basically, a small, medium, or large). I've used it and it works well, and takes up very little memory on your PC.

If you are running Vista, VSO Image Resizer is getting very good reviews, and is free. You can download here:

http://www.download.com/VSO-Image-Resizer/3000-2193_4-10529104.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10866964

If you need to actually crop the pictures first, to make them all the same shape (and you don't have PhotoShop or PhotoPaint), you can use Windows Paint or Windows Photo Gallery.

SamS thank you for your reply.  I know that the question was a very basic one but anything else I tried just did not work.  With the help of you links I have it sorted now.
