DNS Options

We have a domain name registered with MSOL and  the registrar is MelbourneIT.

We want to retain the MSOL services except for the web site. ie redirect the web site to another host external to MSOL. So example.com anwd ww.example.com should resolve somewhere outside of MSOL and emails to xxx@example.com should go through the MSOL email servers.

Anybody have experience of this or comment on any of the following..

 - with MSOL, I don't think I can manage domain. ie I have no control over the MX or A addresses - correct?

 - an option might be to take control over the domain, point the name servers to somewhere I can control the MX and A addresses and then redirect the MX addresses back to MSOL - is that possible with MSOL?

 - another option might be to create a new domain name for the website and redirect from the MSOL web hosting account. However, I don't think there is anything like .htaccess for MSOL??

Re: DNS Options

 1. Correct. With OL/Melbourne IT, you do not have access to MX or A records.

 2. Yes. My suggestion would be to transfer out the domain to another registrar. I believe the only reason why you would want to use OLSB is for the email service. You can get the same features (i.e. Hotmail interface) with Windows Live Admin Center (http://domains.live.com) instead of using OLSB.
