RxDave........... Great advice!!  (I have come to expect no less)

Where I don't think it's a Microsoft issue, it is good to know the tech guys are on to it. Hopefully the Virgin guys are, too.  The only thing we can do now is wait for the outcome.......... putting down the mouse and stepping back from the screen is often the "healthy option" in circumstances like this. Good thing is, if it is an ISP issue and not a Microsoft server issue, all files should be just as when they were last touched.  Certainly, all the sites look very good and very healthy to me.

The problem is with Virgin. I have finally convinced, them by running a command prompt to my site and others, that the problem is at their end. They ran the same tests as me and have promised to fix the problem in 24 hours. When I spoke to them yesterday they denied there was a problem.

I suggest you all dial 151, select option 3 and put pressure on them to move a little faster.

Good luck.

Hello again,

I've just spent the last two plus hours on the phone to a Virgin call centre in India being passed through various departments at different levels, it took over an hour just to convince them that the problem was not with my computer after running all sorts of tests which they insisted on carrying out, we than carried out further tests (while being put onto hold to the same three songs over and over again) before they finally agreed that the problem seems to be with Virgin. They said that when the host (Microsoft) makes changes it sometimes takes a while for their system to catch up with the changes, up to 72 hours, and although I pointed out that it has been well over 72 hours since the problem appeared he just kept saying that "my" 72 hours has only just started as I've only just contacted them. He couldn't tell me if the problem has been reported by or to Microsoft or if any other customers had reported the problem. So I've just wasted over two hours and I'm no wiser and no further foreward..

Is anyone else making any progress with Microsoft or Virgn?

Mike

I am not a computer buff or an expert or the like but have done some research:

Try pinging your website by going to command prompt (cmd) and typing 'ping space and your website without www'; for example 'ping yourdomain.co.uk' and see what happens. Your computer will send 4 requests to the site and should receive four requests; in my case it received none. There will also be some ping statistics which include the host server number (Office Live) of that website. Try pinging that host server; for example ‘ping 207.46.222.11’ and see what happens. If the host server doesn't return the requests, then something is definitely wrong not only with your website but with the host server.

Now, that error could be the firewall or other settings on your computer. But as you are able to access other websites and as other Virgin customers have the same problem with the same host server, a computer fault can be eliminated by doing the pinging from the same computer via a different internet service provider (i.e. BT Internet). The possibility of having a computer problem will be eliminated if the host server or website returns the request to the computer via different Internet service provider.

I am not 100% convinced that this is a Virgin problem; it might be an Office Live problem with the host server (Office Live) not accepting requests from certain ISP’s in the UK. Having dealt with Office Live for a year and a half, I would not be surprised.

A note to all private Virgin Internet customers: Using your private Virgin Internet connection for business purposes is a violation of their Terms & Conditions. Keep that in mind when calling Virgin.

I have been in touch with both Microsoft and Virgin and they apparently have escalated my enquiry. Will post further updates.

I decided to switch my PC off for the last few days in the hope that this problem would be fixed by the time I came back - I would appear not! I guess it is comforting to know that I'm not the only one with this problem and note that a number of you have already contacted Microsoft / Virgin media. Do I need to do the same (to help keep the pressure on)? Happy to do my bit. Jeremy.

Re: HELP -Is anyone else having problems accessing their site through the address bar or Microsoft Office Live?

Just tried what stefanoloffs suggested (thanks) and it would appear that all of the sites I can’t access are on IP address 207.46.222.11. I wonder whether other Virgin Media users would confirm whether you can or can’t access all of the following sites:

Sites I Can't Access (which are on IP address 207.46.222.11)
www.entrustfoodsafety.com (this is one of Microsoft's case study sites)
http://www.jazzyjewelry.co.uk/ (this is one of Microsoft's case study sites)
www.jutas.co.uk (my site)
www.prettypinktoes.co.uk www.kokila.co.uk

Sites I can Access (which are on IP Address 65.55.194.74)

www.fullyvetted.co.uk (this is one of Microsoft's case study sites)
www.kamosa.co.uk (this is one of Microsoft's case study sites)
www.freshfoot.co.uk

Thanks Jeremy

No, I can't see your website, which is worrying as you said you are using BT, is the problem esculating further?.  Can you see mine (which is one of the problem sites) www.prettypinktoes.co.uk as we thought it was just Virgin customers?

Hi, lesdec........... sorry to hear this problem has extended beyond Virgin.

I have accessed you website with no problems. The calendar and fixtures pages show all dates etc. so all will be clearly seen by anyone not affected by the connection problem.

Good luck!

PS: Have you contacted BT support over this issue?

Thanks Shewuk for raising this to my attention; I have asked the Office Live team to verify if this is on our side or the IP side (seems per some of the messages above some of you think and have verified to some extent that this is on the IP side)

Re: HELP -Is anyone else having problems accessing their site through the address bar or Microsoft Office Live?

Hi everyone,

I've been having the same problems with my site www.rejsystems.co.uk

I have found a work around for the moment.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

The solution that I have found is to use a proxy server.

In Internet Explorer go to tools/internet options/connections/Lan settings tick the box use proxy server

Did a search of UK proxy servers, using Leeds College of Technology at 195.195.7.55 on port 80

This is not an ideal solution but may help people that must update their site and are willing to trust a third party to transfer their information, although that is pretty much how the internet functions.

This proxy server seems to prevent access to sites it believes to malicious so you may find some sites are blocked so you should only use this whilst working on your site. It is also possible that if they start to get a lot of traffic coming through it will degrade performance and they could switch the server off at any time.

I believe that as the logon pages are via SSL (secure https) the passwords to your domains should be secure but cannot be certain which is why I have put the rather large disclaimer at the begining.

Hope this helps and it's good to know I'm not the only one having these problems.
