First, TABLES: You will learn the true meaning of aggravation trying to get side-by-side tables to line up. Instead of two tables, why not make one large one? This way everything will line up perfectly. Remember, you can merge rows and columns and insert rows and columns when needed. The weather data at the top of my home page looks like 4 separate tables, but it is actually one table with some of the rows and columns colored white. Another tip is to design your table layout on a test page off navigation. When you get it the way you want, copy the whole thing to the final location.
TEXT NEXT TO TABLES: Again, this will only lead to aggravation. Add columns and rows to contain text. Sketch the layout on paper first to figure out how many rows and columns you want. You can also put tables inside of other table cells. For example, create a two column table. Put another table in the left cell and your text in the right cell. Another advantage in using tables this way is that you get explicit control of the height and width of your layout.
HORIZONTAL LINES: Move your mouse pointer over the line until the crossed arrows appear. Then click
COPYING AND PASTING: For Word text, don't put any fancy formatting into the text. It won't carry through to your web page anyway. Do the formatting after you paste. If you are copying code, always paste it first on a test page. Make sure it works before putting it in the real location.
Come back if any of this isn't clear. The final point is to find a way to use the tools to your advantage. Don't try and fight the tools. Good luck.
