Non-responsive hyperlink words

I am trying to update the hyperlink on one of my pages.  The link is in a column and when I try to highlight the word or double click on it to edit the hyperlink, it just "hangs" and eventually the page header is not responding.  I have edited normal text on a different page and saved the changes.  I have regularly updated the hyperlinks on my pages in the past - this problem started yesterday.

Thanks.

I have also just started experiencing a problem with hyperlinks.

I have an online store with the address http://digital-instrumentation.co.uk/shop.aspx and individual pages within the store are addressed along this theme http://digital-instrumentation.co.uk/shop_HX07_I_7x40.aspx since yesterday the underscores in the address are not recognised when you click on the link and instead of going to that particular product page you go to the main store page /shop.aspx

I believe they have just changed the hyperlink dialog box to improve usabillity. Still no ALT text option though.

Royster,

It doesn't improve usability if my existing links no longer function. Every single page on my website that ends with /shop_product details.aspx now redirects to /shop.aspx everything between /shop and .aspx is ignored. As I said before everything worked okay right up until today.

We cannot pass the code directly to the page like before. Must go to hyperlink to pass the code.

Rob, you didn't mention if you tried to just re-create the link.  Would that work?

Annie, you may have encountered the hyperlink builder in the midst of the upgrade.  Is it still not functioning today?

Re: Non-responsive hyperlink words

RxDave,

I have tried creating a new link to http://digital-instrumentation.co.uk/shop_HX07_I_7x40.aspx but when you click on it it goes straight to http://digital-instrumentation.co.uk/shop.aspx

Very strange and frustrating, as it all worked okay yesterday. I have had no respone from support as of yet.

Re: Non-responsive hyperlink words

Rob, I am wondering if the fairly complex page file name (shop_HX07_ etc.) is hanging it up.  I just tried all of the link types and they all worked for me with simpler names.  Can you test one with a simpler name and see if it works for you.  It may be ignoring all of the material after "shop."  I see that both URL's are indicated in the address line for the same page.  Try an experiment with a test page named  /shopHX07[1]7x40 or something like that and see if it will work.

Re: Non-responsive hyperlink words

RxDave,

I appreciate your assistance but the problem I have is that these are all existing pages for my online store and they all worked fine until 08/08/08 when the new hyperlink creator appeared.

It is not possible to edit page addresses so that means that unless Microsoft resolve the issue I will have to create all of these pages again with new addresses and then change all off my links to those new addresses, that would be a mammoth task. Also, I am potentially losing business.

I have still had no response from support.

Re: Non-responsive hyperlink words

Rob, I understand that.  My suggestion was simply to try a test page to see if the link would work properly with a name not containing underlines.  If it did, the possible cause of the problem would be revealed and give us, and Microsoft some info for fixing it.

Re: Non-responsive hyperlink words

Okay RxDave, I understand now.

I have created a new page /shopHX07I7x40.aspx and linked to it from my test page http://digital-instrumentation.co.uk/test.aspx this works as it should. So, for some reason underscores after shop are ignored.

I hope this helps to solve the problem, I still have not had any response from support.

Re: Non-responsive hyperlink words

Some insult to injury:  even if you did create a new page with a different name, it is not possible at the moment to copy and paste any content from one to the other.  For tables, at least, you don't get the table.  You get only code for the table.  As someone who lives by the copy/paste icons, this has me dead in the water.  I haven't found a cause for this one.

I have still had no reply from support, I have reported it again and have a new Support Ticket Number: 1075875957

Strangely, I have received a survey asking how well my problem was dealt with. The answer is simple, it hasn't been.
