Configuring Outlook (or WIndows Live Mail) to receive Officelive email

Hi,

I've just setup a domain and email with officelive and am trying to configure my email software. I've updated my email software to Windows Live Mail, but Live Mail still ask me to enter the pop and smtp server details for officelive email. Can I use Live Mail to send and receive officelive email instead of using the web browser?

For Outlook to connect to Hotmail/Office Live accounts, use the Outlook Connector:http://myofficelivecommunity.com/discuss/forums/t/7628.aspx

For Windows Live Mail, always select HTTP as the protocol to connect NOT POP (unless you have a Hotmail Plus account) or IMAP.

Thanks Royster.  I had to change to HTTP instead of POP. However, I am still having trouble getting my email. In the field "Login ID" of Live Mail AccountsI tried using both my individual email address on officelive domain as well as the email address of the owner of officelive domain (also myself).  But still can't retrieve my email. I still get the message "Sign in - Windows Live ID" . Is the email configuration for Officelive different than Windows Live?

Did you log into your account at least once via the web first? You will need to do that once for all new accounts before using Windows Live Mail or Outlook Connector.

Yes I did login via the web and tested sending and receiving email via the web.

I am not using Outlook connector. May be that's the problem. I am using Live Mail.

ARa, I just signed up for Windows Live Mail and it went very smoothly.  I am not sure it is necessary, but I had previously linked my Windows Live ID's for my @Live and Office Live accounts.  Be sure you also have passwords set up for the Office Live email accounts.  Then it was just a matter of adding the addresses and entering the passwords once.  Now I just click on the desktop icon and everything opens up.  I am wondering since you first did not specify the HTTP format, if it would be helpful to uninstall WLM and then start over from the beginning.  I am so pleased with the results that I think it is worth the effort.

No. Outlook Connector is not needed if you're using WLM.

Have you tried deleting the account from WLM first. Close WLM, then reopen WLM and recreate the account with HTTP? Or did you just change the POP to HTTP? I suggest you try recreating the account from scratch again.

Well its nice to hear that its working for some of you guys, but no luck for me.

I removed the email account in WLM and re-installed many times without success.

The server URL I have in my WLM is 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v1.0.0/sync.aspx'

But I keep getting the message:

'The sign-in name you entered doesn't exist or your password is incorrect'

I am using the same ID and password via the web on officelive and it works fine!

Anyway, I am trying to get some help on this from Microsoft support.

ARa, just to make sure we are on the same page, your Office Live account password is not necessarily the same for the email accounts.  Only if your OLSB ID is one of your OLSB email addresses will this work.  Each email account needs a separate password.  I recall they would not let me use the password assigned to the OLSB account, or to use the same password for all of the accounts.  Use the Email link in OLSB and click on "Change Password"  if you haven't done this already.

Re: Configuring Outlook (or WIndows Live Mail) to receive Officelive email

The problem is sorted by Microsoft Support. They took permission to access my account. I think the problem is something to do with my MX records not reflecting, or something like that.

Now I am trying to setup individual email boxes. But it seems that with Live Mail, I still have to login on the mail sever using the main owner ID and password. Not a good solution, becuase it means individuals PCs would have to be configured with the main owner ID and password.

Also, I noticed with the email test messages I sent, they went straight to the junk mail box!  Not so sure how to resolve this yet.

Thanks for your help and suggestions anyway.

You shouldn't need to do that for each indivudal mail box,i.e. each mail box has its own windows live id, so you do not need to reveal your owner id at all.

Back to Microsoft Support?
