Hi Clare,
I think your site might look better if you approached the page layouts a bit differently. Here are a few suggestions.
Move your navigation to the left side of the page. On my monitor, your header doesn’t span the top of the page, which makes your pages look unbalanced. This is probably because you have 10 nav headings at the top of the page, many with multiple words. If you move your navigation to the left side of the page, the pages may not extend beyond the header. Another option is to reduce the number of headings (and word count) and then use second level headings like you do on the Products page.
Consider a two-column layout. This would enable you to offer more content at the top of your pages, which would especially benefit your Home (About Us) page. You could, for example, insert photos in the right-hand column and text in the left-hand column. Currently you have content centered in a one-column page, and it looks a little lackluster.
Use better and BIGGER pictures. Experiment with using larger-size pictures everywhere. Don’t make us press our faces to the screen. And avoid using clip art graphics, which look less professional in my opinion.
Review your messaging. Your Home (About Us) page text doesn’t quite carry the punch it might. Lead with a message that quickly lets visitors know what your business is about -- something like: “CK Building Supplies provides professional-grade, acrylic-based paint for roofs, floors and tarmacs. Our paint is made in the UK especially for the UK climate and protects and enhances the look of exterior surfaces.”
Finally, do you want to say Home page or About Us page? Most site builders call the Web site landing page the Home page rather than the About Us page. About Us might seem odd or confusing to visitors.
Good luck with paint sales!
