Hi Elaine, Welcome. The best way to accomplish this is to use a image editing program like PhotoShop to scale down the size of your image to a reasonable size. If you don't have PhotoShop or some other Adobe Image editing product like Fireworks, I suggest you try GIMP for FREE .

You can not make site offline but what you can do is 1. Put under construction note on home page (default.aspx). 2. Disable your all Menu's and then work on site 3. Create another dummy Home Page and work on that, once you are done, copy that page to default.aspx. Then make your site live! hope this...
